How to change Gmail username

When you send an email to someone, the recipient will see your username in their inbox. The username plays an important role in identifying you and your business. Follow these steps to change your username in Gmail.

Step 1: Log in to your Gmail account.

Step 2: Click the Gear iconSettings in the upper-right corner.

Step 3: Select Settings from the drop-down menu.

Step 4: After opening the Settings page, click Accounts and Import.

Step 5: In the Send mail as section, click edit info to the right of your email address.

Step 6: A new pop-up window will appear. Enter your new desired username into the empty box and click Save Changes.

If you want to set another reply-to address, click Specify a different "reply-to" address to set up. Whenever you send out an email and the recipient chooses Reply, his/her message will be delivered to your sending email address.  

Notes:

  1. You can't change your email address. If you want to change your address, you will need to sign up for a new Gmail account and forward all of your incoming emails from your old inbox to the new one.
  2. Dots in your email address doesn’t matter.
  3. If you want to check if your username has been changed or not, you can send an email to your friend and check that message.
