Gmail Filters and Blocked Addresses

Gmail provides its users with the filter feature to get rid of spam emails. This article shows you how to make use of Gmail filtering feature to block emails from specific email addresses and to block unwanted messages in Gmail.

How to use Gmail Filters

Step 1: Go to Gmail and log into your account.

Step 2: Select the email message you want to block by clicking the checkbox next to it.

Step 3: Click More and select Filter messages like these from the drop-down menu.

Step 4: On the new dialogue box, click Create filter with this search at the bottom right.

Step 5: You'll then be provided with several options. To completely block an email address, click Delete it.

If you also want to delete all the previous conversations with that email address, click Also apply filter to "number" matching conversations.

Step 6: Click Create filter.

How to use Gmail Filters

Now if you've got any messages from that email address in any of your Gmail folders, they will be automatically deleted. If you later want to receive email messages from that address again, you can undo this process.

How to create a filter in Gmail

Step 1: Go to https://mail.google.com/ and log into your Gmail account.

Step 2: Click the down arrow icon in the search box at the top of the page.

Step 3: Enter your search criteria.

Step 4: Click Create filter with this search.

Step 5: Choose what you want the filter to do with messages that match your search.

Step 6: Click Create filter.
